From 1973 to today, we invite you to travel through our history. Explore the story of social care and hear the voices of those we support and their life experiences over the last 50 years.

We are United Response and this is our story

We want to celebrate our history and tell our story and the life stories of the people we work to support.

With grant funding from the National Heritage Lottery Fund, we will recruit, train and pay a team of people we support – our UR 50th Ambassadors – to interview their peers, families of those we support and staff.

We also want to collect and archive important documents, photographs, videos and anything which can help us tell the story of those we support and life at United Response over the last fifty years.

The UR 50th Ambassadors will also receive training on how to curate exhibitions, using the interviews and content donated to the archive so we can share our history and heritage to the wider community and the general public.

Become a 50th Anniversary Ambassador

Would you like to become a United Response 50th Ambassador? Or can you recommend someone who would like to do so?

These roles are for people we support and are at the heart of our work, telling our story through:

  • Interviewing people we support, families and staff
  • Inspiring creative projects that draw on our rich archive
  • Curating exhibitions to tell our story
  • Cataloguing and archiving content for our digital archive

Our United Response 50th Ambassadors will be at the core of the decision-making process and creative development of this exciting work. Ambassadors will gain experience in oral history and heritage, marketing, project design, digital media and content creation. Full training will be given with associated support costs and expenses paid, with some travel. 

These will be paid roles for two years.

Contribute to the archive

At United Response, we do not have a central archive. The United Response 50th project will right this wrong.

Why is an archive important? A United Response archive is important because it will provide a centralised system for conserving important documents, photographs, and videos which tell our story, individual stories and our collective story. These stories help us understand who we are as individuals and as a national charity. Items deposited to the archive will also provide important context to the oral histories we collect and can be used as resources for future projects.
