Artists launch month-long exhibition at City Screen Riverside café bar
An exciting new exhibition, which features artwork from our North Street Media Group and The Boot Shop in Easingwold, is being hosted in the Riverside café bar at City Screen cinema in York.
Showcasing work from people we support across York, the exhibition features a range of styles, including digital art, graphic design, illustration, photography, paintings and mixed media pieces. The artists’ work explores a range of themes, from love and unity to communication and nature, as well as shining the spotlight on local landmarks like Fountains Abbey.
Isabel Bullón Benito, Job Coach for United Response and organiser of the exhibition said:
Many of our learners had never had their work exhibited before. We’ve been working on flyers, business cards and artist profiles so they can get their names out there.
Meet the artists
Some of the artists already work in creative professions, others would like to pursue a career in the arts. Our local Job Coaches and support staff are working with them to find employment, training and education opportunities, based on each person’s strengths and interests.
On Monday 19 February, from 6pm until 9pm, the café at City Screen is hosting a ‘meet the artists’ evening, with live entertainment from local singer-songwriter Liv Quigley, whose album artwork also features in the exhibit.
Sam Reynolds said:
It makes me feel so excited to show people what I do. I am now sharing my passion about Makaton and helping others to communicate. I use it 24/7 with my flatmates at home so hopefully other people will benefit from it too.
Eve Wheeler added:
Positive quotes help my mental health and I hope my artwork will help others. I am very excited about this exhibition and hopefully there will be more!
The exhibition is open to the general public from 4 February to 9 March. The exhibition is free to attend, but the art is available for purchase if anything catches your eye! For the café bar’s opening times, please visit the City Screen Picturehouse website.
The team would like to thank Fulford Framing and the Printing Unit at City of York Council for their support in preparing for the exhibition. They’re also planning more local exhibitions later in the year, so watch this space for updates!
