Calvert Lakes adventure – Lyndsey’s holiday diary
The Lake District is already the setting for many famous adventures. Peer closely at Star Wars, Snow White and the Huntsman or even Paddington 2, and you will see its astounding mountains and epic lakes.
Embarking on her own adventure, Lyndsey and her support team recently went on an epic holiday to Calvert Lakes. Perfectly located by Bassenthwaite Lake, the centre is full of ‘accessible adventure’. Disabled tourists come from all over to experience all the Lake District has to offer, in an inclusive, friendly, and fun environment.
Lyndsey’s support worker Sarah had been to the Lakes before and had an inkling that Lyndsey might love the adventure. She showed her some videos and immediately noticed how excited Lyndsey got. Sarah knew this meant it was time for them to take the trip.
Lyndsey is supported by United Response, and has a fantastic relationship with support staff. Sarah said:
Lyndsey knows her own mind! She has a brilliant sense of humour, loves banter and has a contagious laugh.
Zip wire and canoeing in the Lake District
This year was Lyndsey’s second time at Calvert Lakes. She and her support team took part in lots of different activities including canoeing, bushcraft, zip wire, high ropes, swings and rock climbing. In their down time, they relaxed in the hydro pool, sensory room and games room.
Sarah added,
Lyndsey enjoyed doing all the activities, and the instructors did everything they could to accommodate her needs and enable her to take part. She didn’t want to go home and cried all the way back.
At United Response, we support people with disabilities, autism and mental health needs to live a fun and full life, packed with adventures and laughter. As Sarah says:
Everyone should get to do things they wouldn’t normally and have new experiences.
