Ben’s placement National Football Museum has provided him with lots of work and social opportunities – plus he’s met a few great footballers along the way and even been interviewed by journalists!

TV and radio interviews

Back in April, Manchester City fan Ben met the CBS Sports Golazo TV crew and was interviewed live ahead of their big match against Arsenal. Ben gave his score predictions and also talked about their best players:

Ben was interviewed again later that afternoon. This time by BBC Sport journalist Jordan Elgott, who also wanted to know his predictions for the game.

Talking about his experiences being interviewed by the press, Ben said:

It just came very natural to me because I was talking about something I love.

Ben is really enjoying working at the National Football Museum. He works well with all the staff and volunteers and is confident reaching out to others if needed. Ben has also decided to increase his working hours and will now work on Sundays.

Commentating and sports coaching

Ben’s passion for football and his placement at the museum have led him to even more exciting opportunities.

He’s been assisting a manager who volunteers in his spare time as a commentator for West Didsbury & Chorlton FC. Shadowing him, Ben’s been learning the skills and techniques needed to commentate. He’s loved it so far and is now hoping to work as a commentator in the future.

Ben also independently arranged work experience as an Assistant Sports Coach at Lancasterian School on Tuesdays, where he assists students with disabilities in sports lessons, alongside a trained coach. He’s also been given training material to study and complete in his own time, to increase his knowledge in different training and sports techniques.

Supporting Ben throughout his internship, I can see his confidence and independence have grown a lot. I’m really excited to see where his career goes next!
