Following 12 months of hard work learning about Mexican culture, ROC Creative Torbay put on an amazing exhibition!

The month long show – in the Kitchen Gallery at Cockington Court – saw great footfall and some very positive reviews from both visitors and United response staff.

The work incorporated traditional Mexican clothing, still life artworks, remembrance shrines, embroidery, papier-mâché, masks and hand bound journals. One of the centre pieces of the exhibition was an installation in the fireplace, depicting the ‘Day of the Dead’ festival, with sugar skulls, garlands and a selection of beautiful, handmade flowers.

During the exhibition, a Mexican-themed evening was put on, supported by the Cockington Court Team Rooms, who put on some delicious chilli, tacos and themed cakes!

Alongside ROC Creative’s work was some fantastic objet d’art, done by the New Zealand artist Helen Bacon. This work was also inspired by Mexico, which complemented the overall theme and enhanced the visitor experience.

A huge well done for all the hard work that has been done by the participants and staff at ROC Creative. The engagement and teamwork over the whole project is truly commendable.
