‘We must recognise and respect social care staff’: our response to Skills for Care’s annual workforce report
The Skills for Care annual State of the Adult Social Care Sector and Workforce in England report provides a comprehensive analysis of the adult social care workforce in England and the characteristics of the 1.52 million people working in it.
Topics covered include recent trends in workforce supply and demand, employment overview, recruitment and retention, demographics, pay, qualification rates, and future workforce projections.
In response to the report, Ali Gunn, Head of Public Affairs, Policy and Communications at United Response, says:
“Today’s report shows it is time for a political party to finally grasp the nettle and show leadership by building on the strengths and skills of the social care sector.
“There have been areas of improvement but we must address the leaky bucket of staff retention by recognising and respecting social care staff.
“This is why we are calling on the government and opposition to end their deafening silence on social care and finally introduce pay parity to the NHS and long-term support for the sector to deliver a progression pathway.”
