Why I’m running my first half marathon for United Response
Bethany will be running the Vitality Big Half on our behalf on Sunday 22 August 2021.
The Big Half is London’s community half marathon. It starts by Tower Bridge and finishes in Greenwich, passing through Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Lewisham and Greenwich.
Over the past year, Bethany found that running was a good way to get out and about, keep herself busy and add structure to her days.
Bethany says that she also found running to be vital for maintaining her mental wellbeing:
Although lots of my family have run marathons, I’ve never run further than 5 miles before signing up for this event.
Having the target of running a half marathon gave me a great goal to aim for during lockdown, helping motivate me to get out and about to get my training in.
I work in adult mental health for the NHS in Leeds. On a day-to-day basis, I see the huge difference that United Response and other organisations make in people’s lives.
When I signed up for the Vitality Big Half, United Response jumped out at me as a charity I wanted to fundraise for because of their work supporting people with mental health needs.
She added:
I’d encourage everyone to take part in events like this – it’s a great way to keep fit, improve your mental wellbeing and help a fantastic charity out at the same time!
We have a small number of places left to run for United Response in the Vitality Big Half.
