York singer’s bid for Christmas number one
“It’s about being with loved ones and family at this time of year,” said Liv. “It’s just a really happy Christmas song.”
Working with her Job Coach Andy Bowen, Liv carefully researched other Christmas songs, studying the perfect formula for a number-one hit. Combining festive imagery like lights and snow with a catchy feelgood chorus, she says writing This Christmas was a ‘really fun experience’.
It was my first time writing a Christmas song so I thought I’d challenge myself. Andy just pulled out the guitar and started playing chords and the words just came naturally.
Working together
Andy played sleigh bells and guitar and supported Liv on backing vocals. They recorded the song together, using Logic Pro software.
“Andy’s been a great tutor to work with,” said Liv.
“We work really well together,” agreed Andy. “We always seem to have really productive sessions.”
Liv’s music career
Liv, 27, has been singing since she was a child. She says her musical inspirations are Lewis Capaldi and Lauren Spencer-Smith:
I particularly like how they tell a story with their lyrics – that’s what I’m trying to do with my songs.
Liv’s performed lots of gigs in her local area and has written and recorded several other songs. Her last hit, Brain Fog, has had over 900 views on YouTube and was played live on YorkMix Radio.
