At the heart of the complex disability history of the last decades are real people, each with a story to share. Our Life Stories is a first of its kind peer research project, intended to document these stories authentically and preserve them for future generations.

How does it work?

Our Lived Experience Interviewers, each supported by United Response themselves, will be collecting the stories of other people we support. They have all been trained in oral history techniques and interview skills.

These stories will be celebrated in a touring exhibition in 2025, before being preserved in the British Library.

Don’t want to wait till 2025? We will be adding abridged stories to our website.

What is oral history?

Humans have passed down stories and lived experience to one another since the beginning of time. Oral history is one of the ways we can document that process. Recordings are used to capture speaker’s authentic experiences, in their own voice and in their own words.
