Easy News: Conflict increases between Israel and Hezbollah

1. 

   In the Middle East, Israel and Hezbollah have continued fighting. Many people have died.

2. 

   Hezbollah is a terrorist group who live in Lebanon. Lebanon is a country that is next to Israel.

3. 

   Hezbollah is fighting Israel in support of Hamas in Gaza.

4. 

   Lots of things are happening very quickly in this story. This was written on 22nd October of 2024 and many things might have happened since then.

5. 

   On September 18th, Israel is believed to be responsible for blowing up bombs they had put into walkie talkies they thought were used by Hezbollah. Israeli officials have not said they did or did not do this.

6. 

   There have been a number of strikes killing a number of high-ranking commanders. Israel have continued to bomb many different places in Lebanon since then.

7. 

   On the 1st of October, Israel's army went into Lebanon. Israel said that the army was they were only going to be there for a short amount of time.

8. 

   The army of Lebanon, which is different from Hezbollah, did not fight Israel's army as they went into Lebanon. They left and went somewhere else.

9. 

   Israel told the Lebanese people who were living near their army leave and go further away. They said it was unsafe for those people to continue living there.

10. 

    Israel told a United Nations peacekeeping force to leave as well. The United Nations peacekeeping troops said they would not leave.

11. 

    On the 2nd of October, Israel dropped many bombs on Beirut, the capitol city of Lebanon. Lebanon said that more than 50 people were hurt in the bombing.

    Lebanon says that Rafik Hariri University Hospital was damaged by Israel's bombs nearby. Israel said that they did not hit the hospital, but were aiming for a Hezbollah building nearby.

13. 

    Israel said that Hezbollah has a bunker underneath the hospital, where they are keeping a lot of money. A bunker is a room underground that is hard to get into.

14. 

    Lebanon and Israel have not said they are at war. Israel says it is only fighting a terrorist group within Lebanon, which they have to do to keep their country safe.

15. 

    Hezbollah has launched rockets into Israel since 8th of October 2023, the day after Hamas’s attack on Israel. Many Israeli residents have had to move away.

16. 

    Israel’s defence system has stopped a large number of rockets from reaching Israel but there have been many people who have died from Hezbollah strikes.

17. 

    There is no sign of the fighting ending for some time.
