Labour want to put more 13,000 more police and community support officers in communities to help stop crime.

They want to create a rape unit in every police force, put rape specialists in every 999 control room and in court rooms, to better support rape victims. Rape is when someone has sex with someone else by putting their penis inside their vagina, anus or mouth without their consent.

They would make hate crime laws better. A hate crime is violent or theatening behaviour aimed at someone because of their race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or transgender identity.

They want to tackle antisocial behaviour with new Respect Orders - powers to ban adults who keep behaving badly from town centres. Antisocial behaviour is behaviour that may cause offence or harm to other people, such as being loud and aggressive in public, or damaging public property.

They would build new prison places to stop prisoners being let out early because of lack of room and do more to stop criminals doing more illegal things once they let out.

They would improve rehabilitation in prisons and strengthen the supervision of offenders in the community. Rehabilitation is when prisoners are taught to try and change their ways, understand why they did something wrong, and lead better lives when they leave prison.

4: The Green Party views on police and crime

The Greens would end the routine use of stop-and-search and of facial recognition software to help rebuild trust in the police. Stop and search is when police stop members of the public to check for drugs or knives based on the way they look.

They would invest £2.5bn to repair and renew the court system

They would replace most prison sentences of under 2 years with different programmes such as community service. Community service is when criminals have to do good in the community, such as volunteering or tidying public areas, instead of going to prison.

They would make it legal for people to have drugs meant only for their own use, and give people drug addiction treatment and other support. Drug addiction is when someone cannot stop themselves from taking drugs even when it s damaging their life.

They would slowly stop having police and community support officers (PCSOs) and scrap all diversity, equality and inclusion roles. These are roles that try to make sure everyone is treated equally.

They would change the definition of a hate crime so less complaints need to be investigated by the police.
