Easy News: Storm Babet and Storm Ciarán

													 In October and November there were 2 bad storms in Britain. 
- 
													 Storms cause a lot of rain which can flood towns. They also cause strong winds which can damage buildings and trees. 
- 
													 On 19th October, Storm Babet passed through the UK. Storm Babet was the worst in Scotland and the north of England. 
- 
													 Some places were flooded and 7 people died because of the storm. 
- 
													 On 2nd November, Storm Ciarán passed through the UK. Storm Ciarán was worst in the south of England and the Channel Islands, which include Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney. 
- 
													 It rained very hard because of Storm Ciarán. There were 200 flood alerts all over England. A flood alert is when people are warned that there could be a flood. 
- 
													 It was also very windy because of Storm Ciarán. The winds caused a lot of damage to buildings. People found it hard to travel because trains and cars would get blown over. 
- 
													 Some people lost electricity in their houses because electrical wires were blown down. The electricity companies worked very hard to fix all the damage quickly. 
- 
													 In Jersey, dozens of people were asked to leave their homes and stay at hotels where they would be safe from Storm Ciarán. 
- 
													 Storm Ciarán caused a tornado in Jersey. A tornado is a strong wind blowing round in a circle. It was the most powerful tornado in Britain for almost 70 years. 
- 
													 Storm Ciarán then moved into Europe where it kept causing damage. At least 16 people died because of the storm.
