ROC College: Equality and Diversity
ROC College is committed to providing an equitable, fair and supportive learning and living environment and is totally committed to creating and sustaining excellent teaching and learning experience for all its learners.
Equality and diversity is integral to ROC College’s ethos and is promoted and embedded into everyday practice.
Equality is about creating a fairer society where everyone can participate and have the opportunity to fulfil their potential – to live as equal citizens in a society free from discrimination and harassment.
Diversity is about respecting, valuing and celebrating aspects that make us unique as individuals – recognising that we contribute to society because of these aspects, not in spite of them. ROC College will strive to create a culture ethos of inclusion and respect.
ROC College ensures that every learner is treated with respect and each individual is protected against any form of discrimination.
To achieve this the organisation takes into consideration the nine ‘protected characteristics’ identified in the Equality Act 2010; age, cultural background, class, disability, ethnicity, gender, religion and belief or sexual orientation, transgender status, marital status or civil partnership and pregnancy and maternity.
The organisation prides itself on providing services that are varied and tailored to meet the individual needs of the people we support and is committed to enabling people with learning disabilities to develop their independence through personalised transition pathways.
To ensure Equality and Diversity is embedded throughout the organisation the college ensures:
- The creation of an environment that respects the diversity of staff and learners and enables them to achieve their full potential with an emphasis on ensuring learning is viewed as a fun experience.
- Any form of inequality, unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation is challenged appropriately.
- Inclusion within an induction programme to assist learners and staff to gain a raised awareness and commitment to ensure all the people the college support receive fair treatment.
- Students are treated with dignity and respect.
- The adoption of a person centred approach ensures that students receive encouragement to reach their full potential.
- A fair structured recruitment procedure is adhered to, with widely distributed advertising that attracts and retains appropriately skilled and talented staff.
- The creation of a confident, skilled and highly motivated workforce.
