Who are the media contributors?
United Response’s media contributors are people with disabilities, autism and mental health conditions who access social care support services.
Some of our media contributors are supported by us and some are not.
Media contributors create content for our website, social media channels and other communications materials and are paid per project.
Meet our current media contributors and see their work:
Donna Harrison
Donna Harrison is a writer, poet and artist from Richmond. She enjoys painting and doing other arts and crafts in her spare time. Donna says her faith is also very important to her.
Nolan Barratt
Nolan Barratt is a SEND Youth Assistant at Trafford Council and a spokesperson for our My Vote My Voice campaign. He’s also a cat-lover and he’s really good with computers. In his spare time he likes listening to music, watching Family Guy and American Dad and going out with friends.
Benjamin Webster
Benjamin Webster lives in Cornwall. His hobbies include photography, computers, cooking, film-making, yoga and drama. He previously worked as one of our Easy News Consultants and has also volunteered at Newquay Heritage Museum and Newquay Orchard community garden.
Paul Daft
Paul Daft lives in Nottingham and is one of our film reviewers. He loves watching sports on TV, going to the cinema and watching superhero movies. He says his favourite thing at the moment is watching his special Pink Floyd concert DVD. He also enjoys a nice cup of mocha coffee and going for for walks.
Shaun Barlow
Shaun Barlow also lives in Nottingham and is one of our film reviewers. He loves action and comedy films and Marvel films and collects loads of DVDs. He also enjoys a range of horror films, like the Saw franchise and Blood and Guts. Shaun also likes working at the charity shop, going to the gym and keeping active.
Shiu-ming Man
Shiu-ming is a disability and mental health advocate from Twickenham who currently works for Choice Support. He’s also a spokesperson for our My Vote My Voice campaign and has worked with United Response on a number of occasions, his experience includes going to the Houses of Parliament and Cabinet Office to advocate for Easy Read. Shiu-ming is also a co-trainer for Oliver McGowan Training.
Tom Gardner
Tom Gardner lives in Nottingham. He loves Adam Sandler films and his favourite movie is Happy Gilmore. Tom also loves action films with Arnold Schwarzenegger and watching Britain’s Got Talent on Saturdays. Tom likes designer clothes and loves collecting designer trainers. Tom says starring in a United Response theatre production has given him the confidence to pursue acting. His Mum is his personal hero: “She’s always had my back since I was young and she supports me.”
Jamie Wilkinson
Jamie Wilkinson attends our Media North Street and Café West services in York. He loves horror, action and sci-fi movies and has recently become one of our movie reviewers. His favourite characters are Aragorn from Lord of the Rings and Dominic Toretto from the Fast and Furious films. Jamie loves going to the cinema, especially ones with IMAX and Dolby Cinema screens. He also recently started making his own short film on an 8mm clockwork cine-camera.
